What is SEER?

The SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of a unit is the cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy input during the same period. The higher the unit's SEER rating the more energy efficient it is. As of January 2006, all residential air conditioners sold in the United States must have a SEER of at least 13.

What is HSPF?

HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is a term used specifically to rate the efficiency of air source heat pumps. The higher the HSPF rating of a unit, the more energy efficient it is. HSPF is a ratio of BTU heat output over the heating season to watt-hours of electricity used.
